Ep. 32: Catch Up

0:03
The podcast where we sip and spill you are now listening to this episode of Tea With Kea. Okay, okay, we are gathered here today. Just kidding. I’m in Atlanta. Your Are you in? Are you home right now? Yeah, I’m in Greenville right now. Okay, yeah, at first when I texted you I was like for a hot second. I was thinking if we were in person together we could have done this but I know you said that you were like waiting on your schedule. So I knew that I’d be back in Atlanta. So I was like, okay,

0:33
we’re gonna Where are you in Greensboro recently? Yeah, for like a week dairy. I didn’t even know Yeah, I am.

0:41
I went back it was okay, cuz like the way in which all the days kind of mush together. Um, it was Saturday and then I left on Thursday like Thursday after work.

0:56
Okay, so you also you just you just got back to Atlanta?

1:00
Yes. Yes. And my mother said before I came back to Atlanta that I would know who the next president was going to be and she was obviously wrong. But now Now we know for the people who will be listening to this episode just for reference today is Saturday November 7, it is to 13 pm and Oh, okay. First of all, are you like at home right now? Are you like out and about I am

1:26
at home in my office or the the home office? I guess I should say.

1:32
Are you putting in work or you just wanted a quiet space? Oh, I got some meetings I needed to do and some um some emails are sent out you like that?

1:41
Or the people who will be listening let people know who you are.

1:47
What’s up everyone? I am Jamal been friends with Keandra now back into middle school it’s been it’s been

1:58
a good minute now indeed has has has been a several several minutes several minutes Shay usually Okay, usually when I do tea with key I’m like actually sipping on tea but when I tell you because me and my friend like we were out brunch in and whatnot and we found out the news that Biden won while we were out so then of course like naturally we started drinking so On this episode, I’m not drinking anything right now because real talk the liquid that is inside of my body is a very alcoholic but what are you are you sipping on some woman chat today?

2:36
I got some some I got some. Is this camomile tea right now. milty accountability.

2:44
I love it. Oh, my God candle is so relaxing. You were like so in your zone right now. You’re like so one with yourself?

2:53
Is the go to the day after binge drinking. So you know, after what would you say? Yeah, yesterday? Definitely. I was pretty late. Some of my some of my homies came in, came into town from Concord or I went to school that so they pulled up and they don’t be here all weekend. So I’m meeting up with them at three. So we’ll get back after it.

3:16
Yeah. Okay. Okay. So you kind of you kind of touched on this already. we known each other for a minute, but I mean, okay, I need to ask you because my memory is not always the greatest. And when I had my guests on T with key, I always ask them, you know, how we met in some instances? You know, we have the same recollection. In some instances, we have differences. I feel like okay, so actually, I’m just gonna ask the question, do you remember the first time we met? Oh, no, not at all. Um, I don’t either. Yeah.

3:46
That was too many years ago. I don’t remember the first time we met. I want to say I had to be at school. Like there’s no other way.

3:54
Well, yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Okay, so was it track? I don’t know. Was it or like, I think I’m feeling like it was track. That’s right. That’s not thinking too. I feel okay. So I think it was seventh grade. And it was track season, but I don’t really remember all the details, but I feel like that’s what it was

4:15
eight years is as good as mine. I think I’m gonna go with that with you because I don’t know when I don’t know what it was. But it had to have been tried. Cuz I knew before we got the high school, so they had to be tried. Yeah. Have you tried? Probably seven days press seven grade track? Yeah, we’re gonna go with Miss I.

4:35
Oh, goodness gracious. I’m trying to I’m like, I remember Actually, no, I probably don’t want to go into that because honestly, like, Okay, so here’s the difference between you and me. The difference was, you knew what was up you knew you were a sprinter. You were extremely fast. I don’t know if you’re still fast. Maybe I don’t know. You were really really fast. And I was just like, Well, I know that I need to exercise and I know I’m not fast. So I guess we’ll see what happens. But the way in which Yeah, we’re just we’re just gonna call it seventh grade track. That’s what it was. And then here we are 2020 boy had a boy had a new new age. Well, I asked you if you want it to be on the episode and I like threw some topics at you, we decided to hone in on maintaining friendships from childhood. I guess my first question to you is the people you talk to now? Are they more so people that you knew pre adulthood or post adulthood?

5:33
Um, definitely post adulthood like the group of people that I hang around on? Like the most I’d say like my, my closest five or 10 people, they are there people that I’ve met since I’ve come back from college, because just like, you know, everyone from high school, they they’re gone somewhere. The homies that I had in high school, like I still talk to him and all that, like, I still got group chats, we still keep up with each other, but they’re in different places. So you know, I got I have a friend group out here in Greensboro, but they’re all people that I’ve met since like, I’d say what 2018 or early 2019 is probably what I met when I met all of them. So yeah, that’s, that’s what I that’s what I got going on. Now. It’s lonely people. Those are the main people that I hang around.

6:17
Okay, so group chat. Yes. Okay. And I’m pretty sure we’re somewhere in the fact that we have like a handful of group chats but like, I see you I see you many group chats. There’s just enough but Okay, so when you say too many,

6:36
it’s hard to because it’s hard to keep up with sometimes because you like there’s people that you want to talk to people that you probably know you should be talking to or that you want to you want to include on stuff but then it’s like, there’s so many group chats and there’s so many people that you talk to and you’re hanging out and then like the day is gone. You’re like, Oh shit, I didn’t say anything, but

6:55
that’s valid. Okay, wait, so you have an iPhone, right? Yeah. Okay. Okay, so I don’t have an iPhone. I’m team Android. So like, Did you just say that was a heavy sigh? I will. I will flip my laptop right now. And I’m just kidding. I’m so used to it. My group chats are either all school Facebook Messenger group chats, or like group me. But are you like talking about textual? Like, you’re extremely active with these people?

7:20
Yes. So a lot like well, the the group chats that I have, that are just purely text are probably the ones that are for like the group of people that I hang out, hang around out here. So the ones that like my people that are at at a distance, those are like on different social medias like you got famous, like, I obviously don’t even really use Facebook like that. But like Instagram, Snapchat will have group chats in there. And like, that’s the main purpose I use those apps is for these group chats. Otherwise, they just wouldn’t adequate. You still use groups on Snapchat? Yeah, I have. I’ve had a group on Snapchat that we’ve had since like, since I was in college, almost. And we still we still rocking with it.

7:58
Oh, wow. Okay, cuz I was really thinking that it was fate. And I only get on to like, look at the memories from like, you know, this day. time ago? Oh, yeah. Like, yeah, like committed, committed, okay.

8:13
The thing is, like with the group chats, I’ve got, like, I’ll have a group chat with people. And I’ll be on, there’ll be one on Snapchat, and then there’ll be the exact same people in a group chat this on Facebook or not Facebook or Instagram. And I’ll just like, that’s why that’s why be like too many group chats because it’s all the same people. And I’ll have like one, that’s the exact same group of people, but it’s on Twitter. And it’s I think it’s just because we lazy and we don’t want to copy and paste it and send it in once. Like, we’ll make a Twitter chat for shit that we see on Twitter, and then others will send stuff that we see on Instagram, but like, it is

8:46
the easiest because yeah, like especially now. Okay, so I wasn’t like really on Twitter, like when it was poppin. And I had only made a Twitter in college because like, I took this class and we like had to have Twitter and I didn’t use it. And then obviously now I’m like, okay, Twitter is you know, a thing and when the world’s in shambles, Twitter is the funniest place to go. And obviously, like this week, the memes have been like so onpoint Oh, goodness, gracious.

9:11
They’ve been tough to hear. I hadn’t even been on Twitter like a lot recently. And then ever since, like the election was going like the like it was really picking up like, end of October. I’ve been on Twitter so much more just because it’s been hilarious. Oh,

9:29
my goodness. I usually am not on like that. But yeah, I can definitely agree with as far as like the election and seeing all the tweets. I’ve been retweeting so much stuff and question Do you ever see something that you laugh at, but you’re kind of ashamed to say that you’re laughing at it so like, you don’t engage with it, but you take a screenshot of it like you send it to someone?

9:50
cuz I’ve been I’ve been trying to get into this kind of a tangent. I’ve been getting into like different jobs, like people have been telling me Hey, you got to watch what you put on your Twitter now. And so like some of the things that I Have you previously retweeted? I’m not retweet no more I know people are gonna be looking at my Twitter like background checks and shit so but yeah like I see some some walls that you see some wild stuff on Twitter and I just go ahead and bookmark it but I can’t

10:16
oh my gosh, yes, yes, yes, yes in DD feed the needy is Ooh, there’s a there’s one group chat that I have with my crew that we we’ve been rocking it since literally probably like the first or second week of freshman year and that group chat is like specifically for the thing that I find funny that like people might judge me for

10:40
Yeah. Every I feel like everyone has that that thread that they go to where they got like a group of people that have the same sense of humor. Like, that’s what you said all the while shit, and it’s like I they’re cool. Exactly.

10:55
Oh, I haven’t even been on Twitter. today. I am when I had texted you it was I have like I click this setting on CNN for like the biggest updates. And when I was getting brunch they had sent that so my first thought yeah, I was like, I just went and like texted all of my recents and like, went to my group chats. And um, because we were just we were just like so like, fucking excited. And that’s when we left brunch and I went to a bar.

11:24
Like, so like, you texted me that is like, the first thing that I did was like I went to I saw it. And you’re like the presidency. I was like, Oh, I went to Google. And then I saw that it was over like 290 or something like that. And then the first thing I did was go into Twitter. And I was just looking, I was just scrolling through the means. They had one it was one meme, they said and it was like, I don’t know why I don’t know how people are this good at editing videos, but like they you remember fresh prints. Yeah. With the wild jazzy. Oh. They edited that into trunk and I was crying. Oh my goodness. gracious. Twitter’s Twitter’s definitely my favorite.

12:04
It really is after like, we get done chatting because I don’t have to be somewhere else until seven. And I already texted the girl who’s like we’re having this little game night. And I was like, hey, yeah, so we’re gonna like watch him like talk at eight and I want to like incorporate blue drinks because the bar that like my friend read they didn’t have because we were trying to think okay, we want to like just drink like straight blue drinks. Like we were just in the mood, right? We’re like, great, but they did not have hypnotic. They didn’t have you be blue. And so we were just like, Okay, can you just like Do y’all have like dye or you can just like make this vodka blue. Like, cuz we just, you know, we were just we were just in the mood, you know? And that’s why for a hot second, I almost texted you. And I was like, Okay, I intend to be home with this time. Because obviously we didn’t we didn’t know that. You know, it was going to be at this time because Yeah, and I also also saw a funny tweet was something like, Okay, if you’re in Nevada, just like tell me who you voted for like retweet on campus, my damn self and I was like, it was funny too, because I was like, okay, you know how people like when they have one tweet that like, you know, kind of blows up or whatever. And you know, you smart you smart well thank you for like making time for me because I’m not used to you got plans that I want your friends. So yeah, just thank you for that because I wish I could like hug you right now. But obviously,

13:27
I drove back to Atlanta, so I can, we can do we can do a virtual zoom. How’d you know? Yeah. I’ll be back for Thanksgiving. I don’t know when I’m gonna. Like, you know, you know, it’s really funny. What I’m gonna be in Georgia. You’re like, wait, why?

13:45
So my uncle’s got a. He’s got a ranch up there. And he invited us down. So we’re going up, we’re going to think we’re going to Georgia for Thanksgiving with his wife. He’s got this big ass ranch and a bunch of lands so why not? If you if you cook, that’s that that honestly is the only requirement the real question is will you be cooking? I will. Actually, I’ve actually been cooking a lot. I’m on mac and cheese duty. I’m probably gonna do some I don’t know if I want to do the turkey. I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet. But you know, because there’s a lot that’s a lot, but I’m gonna do I’m definitely gonna do a couple of dishes for Thanksgiving.

14:21
Okay, let me let me change my mind. Can I can I come through and bring the whole family? No, I’m kidding. I don’t even like Turkey like that. It’s always dry.

14:31
So you’re right. But if you make that joint, right, you got some good gravy with it, you know?

14:37
Yeah, I just honestly, can we just replace turkey with ham overall, like we don’t need a thanksgiving turkey. Oh, no.

14:45
I prefer ham. But I mean, like, I like to have turkey on my plate too. You know. I’m definitely for the hand. Like if I got a fight at home. Yeah, that one is handled away. That might be that might be the reason All the way

15:01
way oh my god, we don’t do ribs for thanksgiving for Thanksgiving Why am I

15:09
asked my mom I don’t look okay, so I don’t cook like as it is okay. And I live alone like I don’t cook like how how I live Why am I cooked like not really like it’s just like to survive and await whatever the point is. I know my mom is never like, Oh yeah, let’s do like she just just no now I’m really like damn like do I need to like pop up at this ranch and be like Hi I’m a friend.

15:32
I’m sure my parents will remember you. Are they are your folks. Oh, they are cool. They’re currently in the hot tub right now. Oh, should they? They had they actually had a Coronavirus gear. So they got tested, and now they’re celebrating in the hot tub, but they can’t think think they came back negative. Yeah, yes. They cooling it right now. How about your peoples? How’s your mom doing?

15:59
She’s good. She’s good. Um, she’s, you know, they’re teaching from home. So that’s, you know, a barrier in itself as far as trying to teach these kids math, but not being able to be with him in person. So you know, but she’s, uh, she’s doing the dang thing. Jamison is actually doing half days. So catch this. He started magnet school. And it shares the same building as elements. And I was like, what, but it’s like, it’s like It’s its own thing. So even though it’s at elements, it’s not elements. And they have this like mixed classroom where it’s like pre K and kindergarten students. So it’s kind of funny. I mean, I only went to elements in the fifth grade, but it’s coming full circle, and it’s kind of like tugging on my heartstrings a little bit. But yeah, her and Jamison are good. My dad’s mostly good. They had this like, I don’t know if you’ve heard of this. It’s like, um, what is it called? Oh, my God, why am I blanking on the phrase? Okay, I probably shouldn’t be talking about this because it’s not positive. But like, where a hacker gets into your system, and they say, like, give us the money or like, we’re gonna keep like your information. It’s like a it’s like a hacking ransom or something. Yeah, it’s like, they’re trying to figure it out. That’s kind of sad. You know, they’re making it work. And then my step mom, she’s, she’s also a teaching like my mom’s they’re just, you know, they’re trying to kind of make it work teach these kids because kids don’t want to go to school anyways, so now it’s like, Okay, sit down the laptop and go, you know, learn some stuff. The point is that, uh, you know, we’re doing a dang thing. JD is still plumbing. He, you know, he’s got business in that round. So, you know, at this point, we’re just thankful that rolling fluid, you know,

17:43
yeah. A lot of people a lot of people didn’t make it through that. Exactly, exactly. Which I’m like, Okay, let

17:51
me let me go ahead and knock on knock on some wood. And okay, so you said you just started a new job, right?

17:59
Yeah. So I started that. Wednesday. Yeah. Training started training on Wednesday. And yeah, we start back. I’ve got a few assignments to do, which is why I’m which is why I’m in the office. I have a few assignments to do because it’s it recruiting. So we work as a recruiter. Yes. Well, I’m about to be working as a recruiter. I still don’t know what the hell I’m doing yet.

18:20
But that’s okay. But I’ll get I’m gonna get there. I mean, the point is that you’re already in the door. So? Oh, yeah, definitely, definitely. Um,

18:31
this is cool, too. Like, it’s the train, like, look through the training. And it was long, like, I think we finished that he finished at like, 630 every day when we started at like, we started at 930. Finish. Yeah, finished at 630 every day. And I mean, it’s not difficult. It’s just a lot of information, you know, completely new. How did you get here? Like, or did you just kind of like fall into it away? Yeah, it kinda. So I started taking the class back in back in June to get a job in the IT world, not necessarily as a recruiter I was looking for and I’m still looking for a job as a business analyst. So like, I just finished up that class on the first of November. But my uncle that I was telling you about one in Georgia, so he works as I as a recruiter, and they had cut that came down in September for my mom’s for my mom and her twin brothers 65th birthday. So that was in September, and like, I was just talking to him, and he was telling you about what he’s doing. And I was like, yeah, this is what I just started doing. And he was like, Hey, I might, I might be able to get get you a job as a recruiter. And I was like, I mean, what the money talking about. It was talking over it. So we went through it and the big thing because at first I wasn’t gonna take it because like, the money is good. And it’s commissioned, it’s commissioned based, and it’s salary, but it’s not like as high as I was going to get as a analyst like the job that I can get for The class that I was taking because it’s not it’s it, but it’s not really the same room. But so like they I was talking to him, I went through the interview and all that, and they were, they were ready to offer me and I was like, hey, but like it’s not, it’s still not like really meeting my asking price, but then they’re like, it’s 100% remote, and your hours are your hours won’t conflict, because I’m setting my own schedule. So I was like, I mean, yeah, I was, I can’t really say no to that one. Facts. So slowly, we’ll see what happens. I’m not 100% sure if I’ll even stay with this company. If I if it becomes too difficult to do both jobs. Yeah.

20:35
I mean, at the end of the day, you gotta go abroad to weigh the pros and cons, like, all that jazz. So and I mean, you know, we’re both young. So we we have the benefit of like, you know, having flexibility and not have also we don’t have kids, you don’t have kids, right? No, kids. Okay. Yeah. So we’re just out here living like no dependents life. So like, you know, at the end of the day, we just gotta look out for us, you know?

21:00
Exactly. So that’s, that’s what I got going on with this, Nick with this new job. What, what are you doing down there? Because I know you I feel like we’ve talked about it a little bit, but I don’t think I ever got a chance for you to go into like detail about what you do.

21:13
Yeah. So okay. It’s interesting, you ask that cuz so for the past three years, I’ve been with one company, and I’ve been working in digital marketing. So specifically paid search, and like all of our clients have been an auto and I loved I loved the company so much, absolutely loved it, it was a really great, I guess, like transition job for me, like coming out of college, the the culture, the people that are there, they’re so understanding and like, willing to help you learn. But as of two weeks ago, I decided to leave the company and transition somewhere else. And I have the same role, but just different clients. So with this company, we have, like, half of our clients are in healthcare. And the other half is like miscellaneous. So like law firms, doggy daycare, like literally just anything you could think of. And the reason why I chose I mean, it was it was a bunch of different reasons why I chose to leave. But ultimately, I want it to, I want it to get more experienced and branch out. Because like I said, it’s been a good three year run. And I’m so thankful for everything that like the company gave me as far as like, you know, supporting me with, you know, the tools I needed to succeed. And also, I mean, one thing that Well, actually, they have a couple of things in common. So at my old job, I had unlimited PTO, and at this job, I also have unlimited PTO. We were remote because Waitwhat unlimited PTO, yes, it is very nice. And I’m so appreciative and well, even leaving, I didn’t even ask if this new job had it. They were just like, Oh, yeah, we’re flexible. So I just, you know, took that and ran with it. But then after I accepted the offer, they officially like, you know, let me know. And yeah, because the Corona, they were remote and this job were remote. But even before Corona, they only go into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is really nice, because, you know, sometimes I could drive back to Greensboro. So knowing that I could be you know, working from I could do like a long weekend, like drive on Thursday, and like, you know, work from home and Greensboro like that Friday, go into the weekend, and then you don’t have time to drive back I what I’m really appreciative of the compensation was more, which I mean, I wasn’t I wasn’t gonna leave my current job. Well, my old job if you know, I wasn’t to get an increase in compensation because, and I yourself know your worth. Honestly, I’m just happy to like be be forced to do more things that like at my old job, because of our size, we had to we were very segmented, which did leave us opportunity to become like many experts in what our team was focused on. But because this company I’m with right now is so much more smaller, what other teams were doing at my old job is what I’m learning how to do. So I definitely appreciate have an opportunity to learn more of like the beginning to end processes is one thing that I wasn’t really sure about was tracking. So, you know, you get on the internet, and you’re doing searches, and you may like click on something that’s like, like one of my clients is like plastic surgery. It doesn’t apply to you, but let’s just say like, you know, Oh, are you doing plastic surgery and so we’ve ever done. Oh, my goodness, but yeah, well, the first one I had was a good day, too. So I guess yeah, that’s like relevant to everyone. The point is at my old job There was like a team that specifically focused on creating those pools and because obviously when like when you use the internet, depending on like, where you go, you know, not in a creepy way, but like sites are tracking you, but a good way, not a bad way. Um, and I never really knew about like those processes. And now, because I’m doing beginning to end, I’m actually learning about tags and triggers and like the actual code that’s like, embedded in the websites for actually tracking users. So I’m excited. And I do love the fact that yes, I can be working here in Atlanta or I could be working in Greensboro and still getting my job done. But like I said, honestly, I’m just happy that we both have like this flow of income because the way in which bills better their Bills, Bills, no joke.

25:54
Oh, ah, oh, my chest hurt. Just think about angina. Oh, let me stop.

26:03
So you are you’re living? Are you living on your own now in there, or you still have a roommate?

26:09
No, I’m living by myself. I took some time to evaluate the pros and cons. And I was like, I need to be alone. I mean, I have meany with me. So like, I’m not technically alone. You should come and visit. We’re What’s that? It is your uncle Stan? Oh, that’s a great question. I didn’t even ask. I just know he’s in Georgia. Well, there are several cities within Georgia. I

26:38
mean, I was I was fully prepared to just hop in the car, and you know, be a part of the ride, get there and come back. I’ll figure it out when I get there. I’ll figure I like. It is not far away. I didn’t realize how close it was. It’s what like a four hour drive for five hour drive.

26:57
Okay, depending on how fast you drive. If you’re like, you know, a regular speed driver with like regular traffic, it’s five hours. But when I drove back on Saturday, it took me four and a half. And when JD my mother’s boyfriend drives, he tends to drive a lot faster than me. So yeah, we’ll say four to five hours depending on your drive.

27:22
That’s not far at all. Because like, every time I think of going to Atlanta, like the only times I’ve been have been when we drove down to New Orleans. So like, I just have been associated in Atlanta with like this 12 hour drive. So I’ve been like, yo, Atlanta is stupid far. And then I was looking at like, Oh, I turn around the corner. Like it’s not bad.

27:41
It really is. It really is. It’s literally a hop, skip and a jump, which, you know, you could like I mean, I can pull up anytime they no problem. You know where to find me shoe. I guess I should have like, I probably should have said when I texted you, Hey, I’m in Greensboro. So if you want to do it before life when I left after work on Thursday, we can. But I think because you said you like wasn’t going to know until Wednesday then I was like, Okay, I’m gonna chill. Cuz I was like, the odds are we’re probably not going to talk on Thursday. Cuz, you know, like, that’s like afterwards, like when I did whatever. But um, yeah, next time I’m texting you and I’m home. I’ll be like, Hey, I’m home. You’re like,

28:23
I had no idea you were texting me and like in Greensboro at the same time. I thought cuz I do I do about your podcast, I thought you just like, you know, kind of like how we’re doing and now like, it’s, it was just gonna be like, oh, we’re gonna get hop on a call real quick. So I thought you were trying to you wanted me to get on the podcast, and then just talk but I thought you were in Atlanta, like, the whole time. They didn’t even occur to me to ask like, Oh, shit, are you in town?

28:50
Well, no, I was like, cuz, you know, I know. Like, you have like your own schedule. So I wasn’t trying to, you know, like, impede on that or whatever. And it was awesome.

29:00
So yeah, you are, you’re fine. You’re fine. I’ll be honest, I’ll let you know. Like, I was just trying to let you know, like what I had going on, because I knew I didn’t want to I just didn’t want to have a situation where I were we skipped we set something up. And then it conflicted with something and I wasn’t I wasn’t able to pull up.

29:15
Oh, of course. Of course. Of course. No, I appreciate that. Because, yeah, it’s like, um, normally, I mean, obviously, like, you know, Monday through Friday work and, and whatnot. I was just like, wait, okay, let me like, see, like what your schedule looks like. And it’s funny because, okay, so normally when I ask them, Do you want to be on I’m like, Hey, what do you want to talk about? And then we kind of go from there. There have been times where like, I had my friend Javier on here. And and I had it’s kind of funny because y’all are similar in this fact that I actually want Javier to talk about at the time. He was like, you know, wanting to go to med school and I was like, okay, we’re going to talk about that right and, and he was busy and literally sat down. And we did not talk about that at all. It was the episode where I think I titled it friendships life lessons and alter egos because nothing med school related was brought up at all. And that’s all been talking about. So it’s it’s funny because when I texted you, I was like, yeah, so like, what do you want to talk about? And like I said, it’s literally honestly just like a conversation, you know?

30:25
You go, it can go, it can go anyway. Exactly. So back to a little bit back to what we had planned. Talking about. So who is the oldest friend that you have, like can still communicate with?

30:39
I mean, I talked to you in Sterling, I’m trying to think cuz I’m okay. So when I was like growing up, I had like, lived on the other side of Greensboro and then I moved, and that’s when I was an alum as a fifth grade and the only two people I really talked to, I don’t know if you remember them. Do you remember shaylen Sherry and Melissa Martin? I yeah, remember most of March. He just got she’s got engaged. And she

31:03
Yeah, she did. Oh, my goodness. I saw that. And I was like, Oh my goodness. Honestly, I’m on Instagram a lot on like, her getting engaged. Anyways, out here ready to propose. Oh, my goodness gracious. Where are you single?

31:20
I am single, single and ready to mingle. single and ready to mingle single and been mingling? Are you are you still single? I am

31:33
single. I guess I would classify myself as recently single and as a whole another like, that’s a whole nother topic. Yes. Recently single as in if we talked at the same time last month, I would have not been single but yes. Oh, yeah. Real recent. Okay. But as of today, I am single. Am I ready to mingle? I mean, like, I’d be open but I’m not actively.

32:02
So it always happens when you wait when you ain’t trying to get nothing ain’t looking for nothing. Some be popping up.

32:07
Yeah, yeah. But um, anyways, okay, you’re Wow. Okay, your original question. Okay. So I’m pretty sure it’s you and Sterling because Shana, we don’t like talk at all. And like, mostly, it’s just it’s literally just like, we follow you on Instagram. We don’t actually like have conversations. Okay. Yeah. I thought it’s your job to because yeah, other people. I don’t talk talk. Like I don’t really count social media. Because liking a photo, like takes two seconds. And yeah, it’s not. It’s not that meaningful. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I have to say, you and Sterling. I’m glad I’m in this category. No. I mean, yeah, you’re like cool. People. You know, you never, because you know, some people. It’s like, yeah, you naturally drift and like, that’s that, but and then some people, they’re just like, I don’t know, they’re just worth.

33:06
I think, I think for a lot of people, it’s like, I know, and I know that it’s at least it’s like this for me, because like, I’m not just people that I previously was close to that I’m not anymore. And it’s like, there’s no bad blood or anything. But for me, I’m just like a very out of sight, out of mind type of person. Like, I still got love for a lot of people. And if anyone came by, and like I had time, I would make time for that person. It’s never been a problem. But like, when people are at a distance, I don’t I’m not seeing them and they’re not like so like, they’re just not, they’re not going through my mind. But it’s nothing like It’s nothing personal. There’s no hate. There’s just like, I’m not, I’m not, it’s not on my mind. I’m not thinking about it. So I’m not like actively talking to that person.

33:47
Yeah, I feel that I feel that out of sight out of mind.

33:52
Okay, so like, do you still like engage with people on social media though?

33:57
I’m not much I use. I use social media for completely different purchases now than I do that I used to, like, if I reach out to people on social media, it’s usually to either just check catch up with them. And I’m like, I’ll message people. Like if I ever dm someone, it’s sometimes it’s about business. Sometimes it’s just the catch up on him. Like I saw them and I’m like, Oh, I have seen this person in a minute. Especially like with Instagram because of what however they decided that algorithm works now. And like I don’t like I don’t know if you noticed but like you don’t see shit doesn’t come in chronological order. So like I just see posts that Instagram thinks that I want to see so like when times I’ll be scrolling on Instagram and I’ll see someone posts and I’d like I’d seen this person in the middle like oh, that’s Jay guys. I checked up on him and forever so like, I’ll see that and then I’ll just shoot him a message and just check up on him Leo How you doing? How’s everything going? stuff like that, but but like again, it’s out of sight out of mind. It’s like Instagram, Instagram, if I if I don’t see the picture. I don’t see the post. I’m probably not gonna say anything cuz like it’s just not even. It’s not a thought that came into my head. Yeah, that’s, that’s the main thing I use. That’s my main uses for social media now. Of course,

35:08
I think. Yeah, so yeah. What’s the algorithm being like, Oh, hey, like, even talk to this person, guess what, like, I think for me and using it, I’ve definitely like when the baby posts like, or like the pregnancy posts come up the engagement post, or like the we just got a house post. I think those three, like, the algorithm is definitely like, because, you know, people are engaging and like, congratulating. Like, I think you’re Anna Parrish. Yes. Yeah. So I still follow her. I know, she’s like doing like a blog or whatever. But I just got a house. And so like, that was something that was like, in the top of my feed, and I was like, Oh, my gosh, like,

35:50
I actually saw that too. Yeah, and I’m like, I haven’t seen this girl since I was little.

35:56
And that’s why like, it blows my mind, the people whose posts that I do end up seeing, and I’m just like, I really haven’t talked to this person. Like, because sometimes it’d be like, the friends that I want to say something to. And then sometimes it’s like, like, it’s just someone that I knew, went to the same high school as me. Like, might have had a couple conversations here and there. But like, it’s nothing serious. But have you? Um, have you ever seen that is a documentary on Netflix? Yes. The social dilemma. Yeah, yeah, that See that? It’s like stuff like that, which is wild. And like, whenever I saw that, the first thing I thought of was Instagram and the algorithm cuz I’ve been mad at that algorithm since they changed. Because I know it’s not difficult to give an option to either have the algorithm or do it in chronological order, but they’re just not doing it. And I saw that documentary. And I was like, Oh, this is why,

36:43
yeah, it is definitely strategic. At the same time, it’s like, they they know what will get us and the fact that we’re on social media anyways. Yeah. And follow certain people, like, you know, in that sense, we care, you know, like, yeah, that who that was, it was like we knew, but just like, put it in our faces and just really be presented with how it works. But at the same time, it’s like, we know why these apps and websites were created. And honestly, I mean, it really does facilitate, like maintaining social capital, because otherwise, what are we going to do? Like, send out an individual text? to, you know, to everyone? Yeah. How are you gonna tweet somebody now? Yes. Oh, it’s, it’s definitely something that um, I mean, I appreciate as far as like the people that I actually like, haven’t talked to in a minute. I mean, you’re not one of those people. Because obviously, you know, we still chit chat. And you don’t really post like that, though.

37:52
Yeah, I don’t have a heavy presence on social media. Like I don’t post a lot of pictures. I don’t put like I use them purely for communication and meetings. Cuz like, if you look at my Twitter, like, I’ve had my Twitter since, like, early, like probably my freshman year of high school, and I don’t think I have more than 1000 tweets. Wow.

38:13
But you out here I’m looking at these. It’s funny election means let me start. Let me spell Yeah, I’m on. I’m on. I need to, I need to have a phone that said, Hey, but I’m probably honestly after we finished chatting I’m probably gonna get a good nap and not gonna lie.

38:31
about that. I gotta get ready. So I will get that’ll give me some some pre pre drink carbs and me. grief. I really just had I had a bowl of pasta and some pasta bowl and names that I made the other day. Yes. You know, I told you I’ve been cooking a little bit. I was like, Oh, God, like fuck up some pasta. Listen, if you if you ever whenever you’re in Greensboro I cook every Wednesday. Every Wednesday, it’s just my day. That’s just the day I cook. It’s everyone has a day that they cook. And mine is Wednesday. It ain’t that special about Wednesday. It’s just a day. Okay, okay.

39:14
Next time actually, like drive down and like I text you I’ll be like, Hey, I’m texting you also like I’m in the city. But we definitely like

39:23
go out even if it’s not you don’t pull it to the house to eat like we go out to we go out and drink get some drinks all the time. So you can always come through Hey, we’re gonna be late. Always

39:34
the people who will be listening if they didn’t like listen at all, like what would you want the listeners at home to take away from your episode?

39:43
I’d say the thing to take away is reach out to them because try to stick with the the somewhat theme that we had. Reach out reach out to the people you’re talking to in a minute. You never know what’s going on. You never know you might rekindle the friendship. You might they might help you all you I don’t know what I don’t know what you need in life but just reach out to reach out to some people say that I think that’d be the only real takeaway from me. That’s facts.
